“If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever – The Spirit of truth.”
John 14:15
He will give you the Spirit of truth. He also said ‘I am the Truth’.
“The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him for he lives with you and will be in you.”
John 14:17
Re read and consider that.
“On that day you will realise I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”
John 14:20
Unity with God. Reconciliation. The end of the disconnect. Jesus Christ within.
“If anyone loves me he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”
John 14:23
We will make our home with you. God is telling you this.
“All this I have spoken whilst still with you. But the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you.”
John 14:25
How much clearer can it be?
I am going. By way of crucifixion. But the Holy Spirit will come to you. He will live within you. Then I will live within you. And God will live within you. You will receive The Holy Spirit, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth. He will teach you everything and remind you of everything I have said. You will be born again. Born of Spirit. Born of Christ. Born of God.
There’s pages of this. Jesus directly explaining about the Holy Spirit. Here’s some more.
“When the Counsellor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.”
John 15:26
Spirit and Truth, remember. Jesus and the Holy Spirit work as a team.
“But I tell you the truth: It is for your own good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counsellor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.”
John 16:7
That’s clear. It’s not ambiguous. The Holy Spirit will only come once Jesus has returned to Spirit. Look up and read all of John 16.
“I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.”
John 16:13
That’s straightforward. The Spirit of truth will come, and guide you into all truth. “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”
John 17:25
Here Jesus prays for the believers, the ones who will be, in the future, including here, now today, you, us. That he may be in us.
And soon after that prayer, the incarnated Son of God, and Father, and Holy Spirit, was taken, beaten, and crucified as a criminal between two thieves. One of whom derided him, and the other defended him.
We are all they, yes.
But which one are you?
Imagine being crucified as a thief, and there on the cross next to you is Jesus of all people, the one they’ve been calling Messiah.
“Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom” “I tell you the truth. Today you will be with me in Paradise.”
It’s a wonder that thief did not weep himself into the next life. Perhaps he did.
Jesus spoke.
“It is finished”
And gave up his Spirit.
So Jesus is killed.
Given even by himself, as a sacrifice.
And if that were the end of it, that would be the end of it. But three days after his temple is destroyed.
He rebuilds it.
As he said he would.
And now the new age of humanity begins.
